Returning from London in 2016, I have my studio in Mangawhai New Zealand. Beautiful landscape and colours, rural and coastal, Mangawhai reminds why New Zealand is special and inspiring for artists. In 2017 I am settling in to my new home and studio, sketching and printmaking. In my studio, I will be exploring non toxic methods of printing.
I use consistent themes and repetition of icons, shapes, plants and style in my art.
Milly (see below) has journeyed with me and she has found the perfect cat life.
I focus on line and form before colour takes over. I explore different mediums and mark making – beginning with all forms of drawing including iPhone, then painting and printing. I enjoy the randomness and unexpectedness of different mediums which helps me in developing a move to abstraction. I draw inspiration from many artists: Matisse, Morrisot and Bonnard; Hockney’s vibrant iPhone work; the abstraction of Picasso and Joan Mitchell; the drawings of Henry Moore, Jim Dine and Peter Lanyon and New Zealanders Frances Hodgkins, Rita Angus and Dick Frizzell.
